Consultations

What are Research Consultations?

Research consultations offer 30 minute individual or small group meetings with a librarian who can help you develop research strategies based on your research questions and information needs.

(Need help immediately? Try our 24/7 chat and email service.)

During consultations, librarians can help with:

  • Keyword Searches -- What words to use while you search
  • Refining Research Question or Statement
  • Citation and Documentation of Sources (MLA, APA, and other citation styles)
  • Source Assessment (Determining Reliability of Sources) -- Web sites, articles, or books
  • Database Use/Selection - Which database is right for your research topic?
  • Using Generative AI Tools Ethically and Effectively
  • Online Searching -- How to be efficient and effective using a online search engines

For Summer 2024, we are offering a limited number of online research consultations. Please use our research consultation booking tool to schedule a 30 minute virtual research consultation with a librarian. (You can see the schedule for available online consultations here.) If none of the available times work for your schedule, please contact librarian Allison Reibel (areibel@highline.edu) to coordinate scheduling your consultation.

Having Trouble Scheduling an Online Consultation?

Often, students run into problems when they have both a Highline College Google account (@students.highline.edu) and a personal one (@gmail.com). The easiest thing to do in this case is to open your browser (Firefox, Chrome, etc.) and then open a Private or Incognito window. In Firefox, click File and choose New Private Window. In Chrome, click the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the browser and choose New Incognito Window.

Once you have that new private or incognito window open, return to this page and click the Schedule a Consultation icon. Then, log in with your Highline College Google account. You shouldn’t have any problems after that, but if you do, please email your Librarians at refhelp@highline.edu.
