Consultations

Before the Consultation

Before your consultation, review the directions for your research paper assignment. Prepare your research-related questions for the librarian. Some typical questions are about the following concepts:

  • Keyword Searches -- What words to use while you search

  • Refining Research Question or Statement

  • Citation and Documentation of Sources -- MLA or APA citations

  • Source Assessment (Determining Reliability of Sources) -- Web sites, articles, or books

  • Database Use/Selection - Which database is right for your research topic

  • Searching Google -- How to be efficient and effective using a search engine like Google to find resources on the internet

During the Consultation

For in-person consultations:

We will work together at the reference desk for our consultation. We can use your laptop or a library computer.

For virtual consultations:

Find a time and a place to spend 30 minutes talking with a librarian on Zoom. Be prepared to view the librarian's screen and/or share your screen if possible.
