Systemic Patriarchy and Racism in Women’s Healthcare: What Every Healthcare Provider Needs to Know
Sexism and racism are extremely prevalent in our society, and even more so in women's healthcare. Sexism creates barriers such as high misdiagnosis rates, not receiving proper medication, not being taken seriously in healthcare settings, and sometimes even death. Racism pushes these barriers more harshly onto Black women when receiving healthcare compared to women of other races.
