April 2013 marks the 18th annual observance of National Poetry Month, inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996 to “widen the attention of individuals and the media—to the art of poetry, to living poets, to our complex poetic heritage, and to poetry books and journals of wide aesthetic range and concern. We hope to increase the visibility and availability of poetry in popular culture while acknowledging and celebrating poetry’s ability to sustain itself in the many places where it is practiced and appreciated.”
Here’s a sample of poetry and poetry-related books, ebooks and videos from the Highline Library collection. A list of recommended Web sites is also included; poetry is flourishing on the Web. Book and Media titles are on display and ready for checkout in the Library Plaza.
You can find these materials on our Recommended Reading display rack on the Plaza Level of the library. Please borrow and enjoy them!
