Career and Job Research

This guide is intended to provide suggestions to get you started researching careers and jobs.

Researching Companies

There are many reasons you may want to research a company before submitting your resume and applying for jobs. Not all companies are created equal and there can be major difference between working in a large corporation versus a smaller regional company. Also, be researching the company first you can have a better idea if you would actually want to work there. Here is a list of potential questions you may want to answer while researching companies.

  • Does the business have a mission statement?
  • How many employees are there?
  • Are any positions remote work?
  • Where is the company located? Are there multiple locations?
  • What do people who work for this business say about working there?

Company Websites and Annual Reports

The website of a company can provide a wealth of information for your research. If the company publishes an annual report, mission statement, or information on growth projections, this may be useful as well. This type of information can typically be found through Google.

Possible search strings:

  • [company name] AND "annual report"
  • [company name] AND "mission statement"
  • [company name] AND "growth projection"
  • [company name] AND "five year plan"
